Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
If you don’t have insurance or aren’t using your insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate outlining the expected cost of your medical care.
Under federal law, healthcare providers are required to give you an estimate of what your care will cost before you receive it. This estimate includes services like exams, lab tests, prescriptions, equipment, and other related costs.
What you should know:
You can request a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling any non-emergency service.
You’re entitled to receive this estimate in writing at least one business day before your appointment.
If your final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you have the right to dispute the charge.
Be sure to save a copy or photo of your Good Faith Estimate for your records.
